When The Sun Sets...

The Sun doesn't rise sometimes.

It sets over your home, to rise

Over strange distant lands, beckoning

You on a journey of experience

For the warmth of its brilliant rays;

To feel again, to see, the World return your smile.

Darkness settles like a blanket over time.

Hope that grew in you withers, and dies

When the goals that you measured by, reckoning

That you could reach through resilience

Are lost in the eternal gloomy maze;

Never be seen, be glimpsed, within a reachable mile.

The journey towards the sunshine

Starts with a determined step, and courage,

In search of the beautiful light, welcoming

To a weary traveler with licence

From your fear of what lies ahead;

Refusing to hide, to cower, to dread what may be hostile.

Don’t waste your useful prime.

Throw off your old shackles, and traps,

Step boldly towards the distant Sun, incoming

Adventures that greatly enrich you

Even if they’re savage and bitter.

The new lessons, new truths, add layers to your rich pile.

You don’t really need any dimes,

You know you don’t, be wise!

Lose yourself to the excitement, homecoming,

A reunion with the noble dreams

That made you soar among the clouds.

Escape the past, reach forth, even further than the majestic Nile!

On The Lisbon Humiliation…

Some friends have asked for my thoughts on The Lisbon Humiliation. Yes, that UEFA Champions League quarter-final match between Barcelona and Bayern Munich played in the evening of (Black?) Friday, 14th August 2020. I believe that it is useful to look beyond the match to some of the cultural factors that led to this result, if we are to really understand this match. Full story here.

Treats and Tricks

If only the Future was prescient,

It would have sold its garments,

Skipped paying its rent

And bribed the Present

To keep its presents.

We miss what the omens portend,

Or we are warned but defend

The people that tend

To rudely commend

What Honour can’t commend.

We’ll look back on the campaign,

Grin or smirk at fun refrains

And debate our gain

In the middling reign

Of who deigns-to-reign.

This is the nature of our politics,

Mothered by a crafty Public

Who acclaim the magic

Of rulers’ treat and trick

For toxic treats and basic tricks.

My article, Property Development in the COVID-19 Era, examines emerging changes in how we live & the impact on real estate development. The changes are manifesting in three dimensions: the product, the development process & the financing need.
